Craig Solid, PhD is a healthcare consultant in measurement and evaluation with over 20 years of experience. He is Owner and Principal of Solid Research Group, LLC where he helps healthcare professionals and organizations measure and demonstrate the value of their research, quality improvement activities, or services. His clients have included large companies (Medtronic, Optum, Boston Scientific), national organizations (the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Kidney Care Quality Alliance), and academic institutions(University of Minnesota, NYU, Indiana University). He has assisted with the development and empirical testing (validity and reliability) of quality measures and has provided assistance and support for national quality measurement programs. In addition, he has co-authored works on health policy, health economics, and statistical methods in health research. He has given seminars and guest-lectures on analytic methods of continuous quality improvement, return on investment, and implementation science. Prior to founding Solid Research Group, he previously worked as a health services researcher and health economist for the Chronic Disease Research Group at the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation which also served as the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) during much of his time there. Before that he worked as an analyst for the Minnesota Quality Improvement Organization (QIO, formally the PRO), Stratis Health. As are searcher he is familiar with data from administrative databases, national surveys (e.g., NHANES, HINTS), and primary data collection. He is fluent in techniques used in survival analysis, rate calculation, and economic analysis. His work spans many clinical areas, including nephrology, cardiology, rheumatology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, urology, and endocrinology, to name a few. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles in publications such as Health Affairs, Circulation, the Journal of the American Heart Association, JAMA Internal Medicine, the American Journal of Infection Control, Statistics in Medicine, the Journal of the American Geriatric Society, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Journal of Kidney Disease, and the Journal of the Medical Directors Association. He has also authored or co-authored three books: Agile Implementation: A model for implementing evidence-based healthcare solutions into real-world practice to achieve sustainable change (Morgan James Press), Return on Investment for Healthcare Quality Improvement (Springer Publishing), and The Agile Network: A model for diffusing innovations in healthcare settings (Beaver Pond Press). Dr. Solid earned his BA degree from St. Olaf College (Mathematics and Economics), his MS from Iowa State University (Statistics), and his PhD from the University of Minnesota (Applied Economics).
