Rebecca L. Williams, RN, JD, is a partner in the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP where she is chair of the Health Information practice group.
Rebecca is a recognized authority on HIPAA (including the HITECH Act and the omnibus regulation), including addressing privacy, security, and breach notification compliance issues for health care, banking, health plan, and other entities that may be covered entities or business associates under HIPAA. Becky has been named one of the "Best Lawyers in America" in health law by Woodward/White and a "Best Lawyer" by Seattle Metropolitan magazine. She is a registered nurse with hands-on experience in hospital and other health care environments. Becky also addresses myriad health care regulatory issues.Becky is the co-chair of the Enforcement Subworkgroup of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) and chaired the WEDI Preemeption Subworkgroup. She was a Vice-Chair of the Health Information and Technology practice group of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and is a member of the Legal Aspects of the Enterprise task force of the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). She is a nationally published author and a national speaker.Her practice concentrates on health information privacy, security, breach notification, and confidentiality, including assisting with HIPAA and HITECH compliance and complaints and data breaches. She also deals with health information technology and electronic health records, including EHR donations and data sharing. Becky also works in the corporate and regulatory compliance area including anti-kickback and Stark law compliance.
